What Makes This Trip Special?
Every March, the St Barths Bucket brings some of the largest sailing yachts in the world to the small island of St Barths. It’s an invitation-only regatta for sailing superyachts over 100 feet, and the fleet fills the harbour at Gustavia and races around the island. Most visitors watch from the quayside. On this trip you’ll see it from the water, aboard a small yacht with at most six guests. Before that, you’ll spend a week sailing the islands that surround it, from the waterfront of French St Martin to the white beaches of Anguilla, so the Bucket comes at the trip’s climax.
- A front-row seat at the Bucket. The St Barths Bucket is an invitation-only regatta for sailing superyachts over 100 feet. You’ll be in Gustavia while the fleet is in town, with the masts, the lit-up harbour and the quayside buzz all around you.
- Three islands, three personalities, in ten days. French St Martin’s waterfront and restaurants, the powder-white beaches of Anguilla, and the glamour of Gustavia, with snorkelling among turtles and a quiet stop at Tintamarre in between.
- A small crew on a hands-on boat. At most six guests and one skipper. You’ll sail the boat yourself, and beginners and improvers get relaxed, unhurried teaching.
- Home-cooked food and a close-knit group. Guests regularly mention the meals and the friendships, and single travellers join the group with a cabin of their own.
Is This Trip for Me?
This is an active sailing holiday, not a cruise. You’ll help sail the boat, and most guests say that’s the best part.
This trip suits you if:
- You want to hoist sails, take the helm and learn, whether you’re a complete beginner or an improver.
- You like small groups, shared tasks and making friends over home-cooked meals.
- You’re happy with a simple, comfortable boat rather than hotel-style service.
It probably isn’t for you if:
- You want to be waited on, or to be a passenger.
- You need a massive space with air-conditioning like a resort.
- You aren’t physically fit and able to manage your own bodyweight.
What “participatory” means day to day: preparing the boat for sailing, hoisting sails, trimming and winching, steering, putting everything away at the end of the day, keeping shared spaces tidy, and taking a turn clearing dishes. Your skipper teaches as you go, and nobody is expected to know anything on day one.
Travelling solo? Book your own cabin or bunk with an ensuite bathroom (some are shared) and join a small, mixed group.
